How Long Can Artificial Grass Last? Duration Artificial Grass

Back in the day (which isn’t quite long ago), artificial grass was not in vogue. It was ugly, stiff, and didn’t inconspicuously substitute the real thing. However, with growing demand and better technology, artificial grasses have gotten better with great duration artificial grass index. And this improvement in quality is probably the major reason for their recent widespread acclaim.

The first set of artificial grass that became available for the general public to buy was made from inferior plastic, had water-logging issues, and didn’t retain its color for long. Modern replica lawns come with latex matting that facilitates quick drainage, and the material also helps keep the shape and color for long.

Why is Artificial Grass So Popular?

Besides the aforementioned “quality” aspect, artificial grass offers multiple benefits over real grass. For starters, it’s easier to maintain. There is no mowing, feeding, spiking, or watering needed. Some occasional brushing and routine hosing down to get rid of the dirt should suffice to keep the grass in top-notch shape. Natural grass costs lesser than fake grass, but its maintenance expenses add up within no time and comfortably offset the initial savings.

The weather has no major impact on artificial grass. Real grass usually shrivels up and turns yellow when exposed to rain. Such water spells have no impact on artificial grass. Synthetic grass also shines in shady parks where it’s difficult for regular grass to grow. Fake grass is quite popular in families having young kids, especially if the children are football-crazy. Even the resilience of natural turfs won’t survive if constantly used as a sports pitch.

Fake grass is environment-friendly. It does not just assist with air quality by throwing gardening tools out of the picture, but it also saves a significant amount of water, in terms of both quantity and quality. Usually, natural grass requires close to 50 gallons of water per year per square foot, equaling 44,000 gallons for a lawn measuring 800 square foot. With synthetic turf, you can easily save a maximum of 660,000 gallons of water over a 15 year period.

To be honest, there is no standard answer that clearly mentions how long synthetic turf would last. Generally, the grass should come good for at least a decade and if well maintained, its life could be extended between 10 to 20 years or more. However, no manufacturer would offer a decade-long guarantee. Moreover, there are different varieties of artificial grass, and the total duration – artificial grass could therefore vary. Some fake turfs can even last for more than a couple of decades, but that’s not the norm.

Generally, synthetic grass makers provide a guarantee of 05 years minimum. If the fake grass has good UV stability, the grass can easily last beyond those 05 years. The better the UV stability, the longer the grass would be able to retain its hue. If the grass is high-quality, you can easily expect it to last for more than a decade. Also, synthetic grass products have the latest fake grass technology built-in, which is devised to resist heavy foot traffic and different weather conditions.

Proper Installation

Not just the actual grass quality, but the installation techniques employed also determine the fake grass’ age. Though a skilled DIY professional can install fake lawn seeds, it is still recommended to get the turf put in place by a professional. The installer would have a better idea about whether the turf would require a sand infill arrangement or not. Sand infills usually lie better, have enhanced fire resistance, and are more resilient. However, they are expensive and time-consuming to install.
